Both streams of research have, according to Osarenkhoe, developed essentially the same basic framework for models of internationalization:â€Å"Both research traditions conceptualize export development as taking place in gradual and sequential stages (learning sequences involving feedback loops), based on a series of incremental commitment decisions depending on perceptions, expectations, experience, managerial capacity, etc. The firm is assumed to build a stable domestic position before starting international activities.† (p. 2)In other words, internationalization is a step-by-step process undertaken once a firm establishes a sound position in its domestic market; moving into foreign markets is done incre mentally, with each step providing learning to support the following step. The research question of the author then has two elements: First, not all firms follow a sequential, or step-by-step process; and second, their reason for not doing so cannot be attributed to a single factor.The theoretical framework of the research is based on three models that describe sequential internationalization processes. The first is the Uppsala Internationalisation Model, proposed by Johanson and Wiedersheim-Paul in 1975, and expanded by Johanson and Vahlne in 1977. (p. 3) The second is the Transaction Cost Approach (TCA) first proposed by Coase, 1939 and applied to internationalization by Williamson in 1975 (it should be noted, however, that the reference to this latter work is missing from the article).   The third model and most recently-developed model is the Network Approach model, which has been studied by numerous researchers. This is the story of one such incident when much could be learned from a person like that. On the way to school one day, this kid named Patrick went around telling everyone that he had some beer in his lunch box. Now in the 9th grade, this topic of conversation is new and exciting. He was the center of attention, and was enjoying it immensely. We all knew he didnt have any in there, but it was still fun to talk like he did. In all the commotion we failed to realize that the bus had come to a stop on the side of the road. We finally realized what was happening, and as the bus driver made her way through the aisle, you could see kids shoving paper balls in their bags, and sitting on batteries and rocks, which they were throwing out the window. The bus was unusually silent as the bus driver, Bertha we called her, waded her way through the narrow seats. Kids visibly squished as close as possible to the windows, some in an attempt to hide something, others just out of fear that the may inadvertently come into contact with the beast coming through. Bertha was 7 feet tall, and appeared to be one of those ex-weight lifters, that had been on steroids for most of their adult life. Her neck was bigger than that of football players, and her arms resembled those of the body builders sometimes on ESPN. Her gut brought thoughts of the worlds strongest man competition to mind. She was big, and no one, not even Superman, or Batman could get away with messing with her. To us she might as well have been dressed in some military uniform, carrying a leather riding-crop. The fear kept us in line most of the time. She strode right up to Patrick, and halted just short of him. Not a word was exchanged for a full minute, the two just looked at each other, a battle of wits. Patrick was the first to speak. Waddaya want? he said with a sneer. Whats in the box Patrick? she thundered, as if the voice of God. None of your business! He retorted. She opened the box, and we knew from the look on her face he was a dead man. It wasnt beer, but even worse, he had been dumb enough to tote around hard liquor. What was he thinking? Bertha reached down and grabbed him by his collar and literally threw him 15 seats forward to the front of the bus, he crashed with a blood-curdling scream into the windshield. At this point, you know that half the bus must have wet their pants, and the other half was in bewilderment as to what had just happened. Bertha though was un-phased she reached down, and with a vicious jerk lifted Patrick from the ground, and tossed him in the seat. Then she did the unthinkable. She opened the bottle and downed half of it in one gulp. The thought of death crossed my mind, not because I had done something wrong, but because old Bertha couldnt drive to begin with, and n ow she was going to be drunk. The way David Lean uses film form and film technique to show the various sides of the way Laura is feeling is exceptional. In this essay I am going to explore this. For example in the voice over narration in the opening scene, Laura is on the train sitting opposite someone she hasnt met before. The voice over narrative here gives us a path into what Laura is thinking, although she is being spoken to by someone she knows, her head is running with thoughts. This here suggests that Laura is troubled. The introspective nature of Laura, a sign of paranoia and anxiety, is expressed here through Leans use of a voice over narration. Although this early into the film we are unsure as to why Laura is anxious, we know that there is something external bothering her. This is shown through her lack of interest in her internal surroundings. The voice over narrations at home with Fred contrast with the visual imagery of Lauras passionate affair with Alec. These voice overs tell us that Laura is stuck between passion and repression. Laura has fallen in love with Alec, a feeling she hasnt had for a long time, but she is married to an honest man who fathered her two children. Laura is battling between her heart and her mind. The voice over narrations here show Lauras escape from the edwardian environment she is in. Although she has fallen in love with another man, she knows she cannot leave her children and husband. Towards the end of the film after Laura has told Alec she cannot see him again. This scene is a continuation of the opening scene, this time we are aware of Lauras predicament. Laura, again, oblivious to her surrounding, is in a world of her own. Laura gazes out the window watching the scenery fly past in a blur. It is here again that Lean escapes from the realist style of the film to develop more expressionism using the window as a path into Lauras imagination. Here there is two screens superimposed on top of eachother, contrasting the reality of Laura being on the train home never to see Alec again with the dream of living her life with Alec. This contrast on screen is synonymous with the contrasting struggle in Lauras mind.
